Mandarin Filmswas established in 1991.  Through the years, it has been engaging in films production, distribution and licensing, and film processing businesses with splendid performance.

In 2001, Mandarin Group took a great leap towards another remarkable milestone by listing on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (Stock Code :00009). Following the rapid market growth in China in recent years, Mandarin Films has seized the opportunity and aimed to produce high quality films in order to fit the taste of audience and capture the strong market demand in the Mainland.

Since its foundation, Mandarin Films has amassed a collection of over 100 films. Upon the release of “All’s Well End’s Well” by Director Clifton Ko in 1992, the film achieved success with its box-office at record high for over HK$48 million, which was the highest grossing film in 1992, and is still considered to be a cult classic comedy by most audience today.  Mandarin Films produced various films with renowned directors in the past, such as “The Bride With White Hair” (1993), “The Phantom Lover” (1996) by Director Ronny Yu; “The Chinese Feast” (1995), “Tristar” (1996), “Seven Swords” (2005), “Missing” (2008) by Director Tsui Hark ; “Eighteen Spring” (1997) by Director Ann Hui ; “Dry Wood Fierce Fire” (2002), “Dragon Tiger Gate” (2006), “Flash Point” (2007), “Ip Man” (2008), “Ip Man 2” (2010) by Director Yip Wai-shun.  Those were a number of genres that considered the essence of Hong Kong movies.  Particularly the films of “Ip Man” series, which hit considerable box office records domestically and globally, and also received numerous film awards and international recognition.  Among all, “Missing” was the officially selected film in the closing ceremony of the “2008 International Rome Film Festival”, it also honored with the “Best Sound Effects” in the “45th Golden Horse Awards”.  Another notable film “Ip Man” which went on screen in 2008 received more than 14 awards in various film festivals.  The most prominent awards were the “Best Action Choreography” in the “46th Golden Horse Awards”; “The Best Film” and “The Best Action Choreography” in the “28th Hong Kong Film Awards”; “The Best Film” and “The Foreign Best Leading Actor” in the “13th China Huabiao Awards”.  The first real breakthrough was “Ip Man 2”, the receipt of which was the Hong Kong top record of local box office film in 2010 and received “The Best Action Choreography” in the “47th Golden Horse Awards” and “30th Hong Kong Film Awards”.

Director Yim Ho, who has awarded “The Best Director” in the “Berlin International Film Festival”, the “Golden Horse Awards” and the “Hong Kong Film Awards” also directed a legendary movie namely “Floating City” for Mandarin Films. The main cast in “Floating City” includes Aaron Kwok, Charlie Yeung and Nina Paw, which was released in May 2012.  Concurrently, Mandarin Films is co-producing a 3D film “The Monkey King” with Filmko Entertainment Limited, the movie is starred by Donnie Yen, Chow Yun Fat and Aaron Kwok, which is expected to release in the summer of 2013.
